Tango is an echo of the streets of Buenos Aires. Tango emerges from the underworld of those dark back streets, in the working-class port neighborhoods, as a universal idiom of expression brought at the end of the 19th century by European immigrants and blended in local brothels visited by hoodlums. Eventually, Tango was brought to the elite salons of Paris, and enjoyed wide popularity in capitals all over the world. From the sheer background for a dance, through years of evolution, it became primarily a musical grammar. The process of evolution still continues, and Pablo Ziegler leads the charge.

The program “Beyond Tango” was conceived by Pablo Ziegler exclusively for our Festival and it is an honor to share the stage with him.
